Since posting about growing my hair out, I’ve been getting DM’s about my routine and how I was able to manage with the new texture. The biggest lesson I can share about this is that the more products I put on my hair, the harder it was to manage. What helped me to develop a hair regimen that worked wasn’t buying more products, it was paying attention to the small shifts that had a positive change.
It’s like the 80/20 rule in action.
80% of the products I used were responsible for only 20% of the positive changes in my hair. And the flipside – 20% of my products made 80% of the difference. So I started to pay attention and identify the 20% that represented the top performers. I now only have 5 products that I use regularly on my hair (and that includes shampoo and conditioner).
Often, the solution isn’t to throw more shit at a problem, it’s to subtract – to refine.
