We were meant to go to Afrofest, and I really wanted to go. I thought it would be great cultural exposure for my daughter to see both French and English-speaking performers of African descent.
But the day before, I learned about a French family event in Hamilton and decided that might be even better for us. I’m always trying to give my daughter more contextual French experiences. So we scrapped our plans for Afrofest and drove to Hamilton instead.
It turned out to be a wonderful event. We even participated in a bilingual play with Dufflebag Theatre!
During the event, the hosts suggested a local restaurant for lunch — Mystic Ramen. We almost didn’t go when we saw it was a 28-minute drive, but despite the distance, we decided to give it a try. Honestly, it was hands-down one of the best ramen meals I’ve ever had, and the service was exceptional. The Tantanmen is totally worth the hype!
While I was in the bathroom with my daughter, the waitress asked my husband if we were going to “the show.” He had no idea what she was talking about — and that’s when we discovered that The Wiggles were performing less than ten minutes away at that very moment!
We quickly drove to the theatre and were able to get tickets at the door.
It was incredible — a beautiful adventure for our family, completely spontaneous.
Days like this remind me that sometimes the best adventures aren’t the ones we plan — they’re the ones we stumble into when we’re willing to change course.
